Running out of Boyles Yard in Birmingham AL last week I had ex SP (DRGW) 5387 leading. Ride along with me as we get almost 11,000 tons moving. ;D www.youtube.com/watch?v=LwWmbOEPmJs

I was initially afraid to look, but I have to take my hat off to you! You found a way to film from a former SP unit so that you can't really tell its an ex, thank you! Great stuff!

I don't know how many like 5387 are around, but she is practically un-patched in any way. She is looking a little worn, but still beautiful in my eyes. Took time out to get some shots of her Monday morning before getting in the taxi...

Front units were all ex-SP. 7444 and 9259 have lost the grey and red unfortunatly.

Whats cool about running SP 5387 is that it is still listed as an 'SP' unit. We get track warrents and paperwork addressed to "SP 5387".

That is a really neat series, but that box on the nose has gotta go ;D, maybe I'll Photoshop that out OTOH, I really like seeing the black units with the SP details, if I was just getting into the hobby today, like I did back in the 70's, I'd probably want to model a bunch of leased units like that!

What RR do you work for; who's trackage is it now, and/or who did it use to belong to? The track looks well maintained, but you were getting bumped around pretty good for 25mph. I'd imagine that was top speed for that line? Nice videos though, thanks for sharing! I have not had a cab ride since about 1979 eastbound out of Industry Yard. But that took me back to the fun I used to have back then.

John, the railroad is an OmniTrax owned shortline, the Alabama and Tennessee River RR. It leased for 20yrs a line from Birmingham AL to Guntersville AL. From Birmingham to Wellington, it is running on the old Seaboard Line. (Seen in the video.) Track speed is 35mph...lowered from 60mph when the Seaboard had it. Wellington to Gadsden is running on L&N track. 25mph top speed. Gadsden to Guntersville is running on the NC&StL Line to the Port of Guntersville. 25mph top speed. (Grades close to 3% and curvature on this part of the line.) There are some rough spots on this line, but they are slowly getting them fixed.
