Hi, This is my first post on the web site, and just wondered if I could get some information on the SD-35. I have three Atlas N scale SD-35's that I just bought from a guy today...they are undecorated, and of course I'm going to paint and letter them for SP.
I have been researching photos of SD-35's , mainly in SP Motive Power Review books, trying to pick up details specific to the SD-35. Of all the photos I have seen, it doesn't look like they were ever fitted with pilot plows. I know they were reclassified from freight to switcher locomotives in their later years, but it doesn't look like they ever had plows even back in their freight days. Can anyone tell me for sure...that this is the case?
Also...as far as eras go, I know they were in service in 1965, but how long did they last? What year was the last of them retired.
Thanks in advance for any help on this subject
Jeff

In August, 1990 the Southern Pacific had 16 SD35's. I'm not sure what year they retired. I can tell you that SP2961, SP2968 and SP2969 were leased by the espee, while the SP2962, @p2963, SP2964, SP2965, SP2966 and SP2967 were all owned outright by the espee. If you're interested in seeing more of the locomotive specs they can be found in the locomotive roster section of this website.

This is an old forgotten project of mine, this is a highly modified Atlas model in HO, I replaced a lot of components with Cannon parts on mine, I know yours is in N scale so this is just to give an idea of the details I put on mine, this was being modelled as SP3103 as I saw it at West Colton in the mid to late 80's, I have a stock version along for comparison
