A little bird tells me that Athearn, who is about to release some C-50 class caboose cars in 'N' Scale later this year, will indeed be following up with the same classes in HO Scale at some point yet to be determined; this is indeed great news. I mean its hard to have too many cabooses if you model the SP in the 60's, 70's or 80's, as trains often had several dead heading opposite the dominant flow of traffic back then.
Even better news, is that Athearn is also looking into a nice fresh redo of the old wide body SD9 using their acquired RailPower tooling; after some upgrades and tweaking this unit will be made available to a hungry market. The possibilities are endless here (especially if they do the SD7 too), Athearn could do a never ending series of SP units, depending on light package, paint, and rebuild options (my mind is racing to think of how many variation this really is). I also predict that any correct version will sell like hot cakes...well, maybe more like ice cold lemonade served in the shade when its over a 110 degrees outside, and you've been railfanning out in it with no cooler.
Now, if they will just do a nice fresh GP9, in several phase variations, my savings account can go the way of my retirement accounts...
