Great photos with a variety of motive power! This is one reason I love the SP. ;D

March 1971, Train #52, The San Joaquin Daylight which until the end was usually equipped with round end obs cars (by then converted to chair cars) and is seen at Walong on the Tehachapi Loop. I wonder who that girl was---and where is she today? By the way, thanks for comments guys---they are much appreciated.

Under a gorgeous morning sky, LA style, SP Train #1 with #6451, 3009, and 6454 on the head end, arrives at LAUPT in March of 1971.

Pacific Locomotive Association's Truckee Limited of April 25th, 1971. The last excursion train to operate on the SP prior to Amtrak on May 1. Seen East bound on the #2 track at Norden.

Easter Sunday 1971, Sacramento, CA, as the Sacramento Daylight prepares to head South to Tracy and meet the San Joaquin Daylight. Note the then still standing SP hospital in the far background.

I well remember this picture and the "poetic" question.... where I've already read it?

Well, not really an Espee train, in fact Amtrak #5 at Soda Springs Crossing in January of 1986, but #3207 is certainly SP---even if was "Kodachromed" for the ill-fated SPSF merger

Like so many shots from the early Amtrak era---it may be an Amtrak train but all eight locomotives either are or were SP veterens. The two SD45's in the lead still have their L-shaped windows and have not yet gotten the large "SP" (well, SSW I guess) on the nose. Reno Fun Train, February 1976, Emigrant Gap, Westbound, approaching Switch Nine.

NICE SHOT!

SP SDP45 #3205 has just crossed the San Joaquin River at Mossdale with Train #52, the LA bound San Joaquin Daylight. The area to the right is now all housing---probably a lot of it bank owned.

SP #4803, a Fairbanks-Morse Train Master, is at Santa Clara with Train #153, which still carried an RPO at that time. September 1964
