Howdy Gary, its interesting to see how SP thought about fully amortized equipment; I am getting a picture via your postings.

These SD9R's (4300 and up) went through the GRIP program at the Sacramento General Shops, in the years you have listed as built dates. They all received new builders plates from the SP shops when completed; so that fact, coupled with your SP records showing new built dates, says a lot. The units were actually first constructed by EMD between 1954 and 1956.

Good stuff, keep it coming; its sort of a view behind the curtain, karma for you.

See what I mean folks? Every little scrap of information, every picture is worth while, you never know where the next bit of SP history is hiding! You might have it, and not even know it; lets keep this trend going. Look through your old RR pictures or SP paraphernalia for anything of interest.

Thanks John. I'm always willing to pass along any info that I have about the SP. After I'm done with the SP and SSW stuff I'll do the DGRW locomotives, since I have the same information for them as well. In August, 1990 the DRGW - SP merger had gone thru. I hope all the forum members enjoy the information I'm giving out here!!
