The Spins List, IMO, is a great tool to have available. It shows all the places of business that the railroad would serve. They're printed by zone(s) listing all the different industries, wether it be a lumber yard or even a brewery. The list includes the track number, industry served and sidng capacity. They maybe available at swap meets. They're a great addition to the ETT's.

I agree, I just wish they were easier to come accross.

Not too many folks have read this thread, so we must be two of the few who are into things like SPINS books. For anyone else who might be interested, I found this link on eBay, it is to a guy called Railfan Depot: tinyurl.com/6ck6o2This is search for SP items in his store, and I have no idea how long a link like this will be good for; so here is his storefront: stores.ebay.com/RailfanDepotJust do a search for Southern Pacific as I did and you will see what he has in stock at that moment. All the SPINS books are photocopies of original SP books, and that should get the job done for switching the terminal of your choice.

I think for the modallers who want to model the SP in a realistic way would have a SPINS book to develope their layout with the correct industries. All kinds of things like a newspaper plant to a brewery and everything else. I just wish SPINS lists where a little easier to come across.

I'm looking for SPINS info for the Coast Line from Burbank to SLO, generally in the 1980s and 1990s. I have the Burbank Branch SPINS book from the Railfan Depot. SPINS are indeed a good source for modeling. Anyone know of someone selling or trading this SPINS info?

Thanks. The SP HS sounds like a good idea. I'm going to Orange Empire this fall, maybe October, so I'll check it out then. And thanks for telling me about this forum. This is great SP stuff.

Tim As far as I know, SPH&TS has no SPINS for sale, that said, the Society or CSRRM might have some in their library archives. Members of both organizations, are supposed to have access to either source. I have been in touch with one of the movers in the current SPH&TS board, and have already brought up the idea of making copies of some of the existing SPINS and the system that predated SPINS. So far, its just being taken under advisement. Then again, the whole top end of the society seems pretty heavily entrenched in pasenger car modelers, so a booklet on track maps for freight OPS might not be considered too important at the moment. What might help is if some members start requesting such items from the society. If you are not a member join; once you are a member, write to the society and ask about track maps and SPINS books being reprinted for purchase by members. Just a thought...

Yes to the CSRRM having copies of the SPINS withen California. I needed a copy of the SPINS book for Emeryville and they copied it for me. I also donated the SPINS books that I had for trackage in California to the Museum library. I have several SPINS booklets for other Southern Pacific served (Kansas City, San Antonio, Galveston and Salt Lake City) cities. I'm still looking for a SPINS book on San Francisco. I have not asked the CSRRM if they have a copy yet.

If any of the members have a chance to visit the CSRM, by all means, do it. Just outside of the building is the coastline. They also have tours. It's like being a kid in a candy store. I was there several years ago and highly reccomend it to all.
