New guy here: I could swear I read somewhere that L.A. Division Pacifics used 25' rectangular tenders on local runs to Santa Barbara or Ojai, so that the entire loco could be turned around on small turntables. There are numerous photos in current publications showing these tenders on P-1's to P-6's and P-11's. Would anyone know if these tenders were 60-R, 70-R or 90-R's; it's hard to tell from the photos.
I've gone thru just about every page of Mullaly's and Petty's The Southern Pacific in Los Angeles 1873-1996, and have come up empty. Am I dreaming? Thanks.

An answer my own question: After going thru SPT&HS's tender diagram book and other sources, it looks like all the tenders in question were 9000 gallon 90-R-1's, -3's and -4's. The boxy tenders were all about 28.5' long and indeed a good 7+ feet shorter than an equivalent Vandy.
