I do not know how many shots I have taken from Pepper Avenue bridge in my life, but here is a little one that shows the crew "lounge". Circa 1980If you are not a local railfan, and thus unfamiliar with this view, you are looking roughly north (RR WEST) from the south end of the yard; the balloon track for L.A. bound trains is behind me.

Pepper avenue sure was a favorite place for railfans!! Yeah it was Gary...lookie here...here we see U25B's 6700 and 6701 beginning their last journey; the deadline awaits them.I took this in November 1978.

West Colton was well known for having a lot of rail traffic between 2 AM and 11 AM on Sundays.

West Colton Yard was the major Southern Pacific yard in Southern California replacing Taylor Yard in Los Angeles.
The other major yard in California was in Roseville, California.
