Once upon a time, I was up in God's Country (Tehachapi Pass), waiting a glimpse of the Royal Hudson. What did I know, I thought I was going to see a real steam engine on a mainline RR for the first time, not some giant statue being pushed by diesels. While awaiting the coming biggest disappointment of my young life (at least to that point); I met a family of railfans who were about to change my life.
I won't bore you with all the intervening years of fun and learning we had together, but I use this as an introduction to the following photographs. The patriarch of this family was Gerald Docken, he passed about ten years ago, but I still fondly remember the times we shared running trains or talking about how things work.
Shortly before he passed away, Gerry gave me an old envelope of B&W prints; I think he said that he had taken them when he was on a private tour at Taylor....somebody he knew from DWP hooked him up I think. Anyways, he wanted me to have them, since I was into SP so much, he figured I was their best bet to be preserved and shared. I guess he was right, again; so now, I present these here for your enjoyment and possible modeling help. Enjoy!
AFAIK, these are all he had; I just found them in that cigar box where I had a bunch of miscelaneous SP stuff, just sitting on a shelf. Now they are on the web where I hope they can be appreciated by SP fans everywhere.
There you go Gerry, I finally kept my promise and got these out to the world.
