Back in the 80's I used to frequent a lot of the typical places, Pepper Ave overpass, Tehachapi, Cajon Etc. some of these pics are not the best as they were scanned from 30+ year old disc camera prints, I started shooting slides during this time after buying a Mamiya 35mm camera at a yard sale for $15, this will hopefully be an ongoing post for me as I start scanning my slide collection ,time permitting ,the exact dates are lost to memory as I wasn't real good about dating my photos back then so any date given is approximate, hope you enjoy _ Walong mid 80's Given the paint this was at least 86' Rio Grande pool power

Back in the 80's there was a small group that would congregate at Oxnard on Sunday morning to watch the arrival of Amtrak's Northbound Coast Starlight, sometimes there would be an SP freight waiting for it to pass, most Sundays the Starlight was the highlight of the day, Sunday was a good day to poke around the yard as there wasn't much going on and minimal personnel around Rounding the curve past the old depot SP 3206 laying over Rainy overcast Sunday, not much going on

I passed over the Sacramento Locomotive Works many times on the interstate, only visited the place once, my only regret is I didn't take more pictures, here are a few that I've scanned, once I get around to scanning my slide collection they'll be a few more to follow, we stopped here on a Sunday afternoon on our way back from the railroad days at Portola Look real close at the center of the pic between the overpass pillars and you can see 1192's yellow cab, look just to the left of the 4 unit consist partially obscured by the pillars and you'll see 3205, SP's problem child of the SDP45 fleet

More SLW Just above the Kodachrome unit in the background you can see the rear of the tender of one of the Santa Fe steamers donated to CSRM, its a shame how badly they've been allowed to deteriorate Hard to believe most of this is gone now
