My father, Joe Wythe, was Assistant General Manager of the early PMT. I am trying to put together a history of the trucking industry where he was involved. Among other duties, he set up routes throughout California as well as Oregon and Arizona. He invented the hopper-bottom cement truck for the PMT's role in hauling bulk cement from the plant in Lone Pine, Ca to the job sites for the construction of the Imperial Canal. He was also involved in labor negotiations between the company and the drivers.
If any old timers have pictures or recollections that can be added to my project, I would be most great full.

I lucked out! Cleaning out some boxes of papers I found two documents regarding my father's appointment to the Pacific Motor Trucking Company.
Document 1. Headed Pacific Motor Transport Company/Pacific Motor Trucking Company - Joint Circular No. 4 "San Francisco, November 1, 1933.
Effective November 1, 1933.
MR. E.J.McSWEENEY, Assistant General Manager, is in charge of all Pacific Motor Transport Company operations.
MR. J. H. WYTHE is appointed Assistant General Manager, Pacific Motor Trucking Company, in charge of all Pacific Motor Trucking Company operations
Headquarters San Francisco
L. B. YOUNG,
Vice-President and General Manager"
Document No. 2:
A clipping from the local newspaper in Hollister, Calif.:
"Wythe Named to High Position; Well Known Here"
What follows is about a 3 inch column outlining the appointment and his duties.
++++++++++++++
I have been trying to put together a history of the trucking industry and have not been able to bridge the transition from one-man operations of the 1920s - with the old solid tire open air equipment to the the development of the 1930s with equipment that is not that different from today's industry. These two documents are part of that bridge.
