An out of the box Athearn HO model, roof ends extended, some details added, and then a little light weathering... The fun part was matching the really nice Athearn paint to the added details; thank God for weathering, it covers a multitude of sins!

Using a C-40-4 to sort of represent a C-40-6 rebuild. 1st order of business: roof extensions. Talk about making work for oneself, this IS factory paint with the rivets removed! Under that road grime resides the original factory paint and lettering; only the number has changed. The fuel tank is from an Athearn U-Boat with homemade styrene bands; the vent pipe is wire with fabricated attachments.

You know that since Athearn did up a SP 1741, I'd have to have that one too... ...the roof ends were lengthened before the rest was started... Again, a stock Athearn model with modified roof and underbody details, and some light weathering...
