From Railspot:
The Railroad and Heritage Museum, in conjunction with the Central Texas Chapter of the National Railroad Historical Society, is pleased to announce the second presentation of its 2010 Railroad Lecture Series, "Cotton Belt Memories" at 2 pm on Sunday, June 27th in the Museum lobby of the Santa Fe depot, 315 West Avenue B, Temple, TX.
Gary Powell of Troy and Bradley Linda of Waco will discuss many aspects of Cotton Belt's history and the various lines it once operated. Numerous historic photos will be presented as well as maps and employee timetables. Also included will be coverage of Cotton Belt's final years as an independent line prior to its absorption into Southern Pacific.
Mr. Linda, president of the Central Texas Chapter of the National Railroad Historical Society, developed his interest in the Cotton Belt Railroad when he learned that his great grandfather once worked the Tyler-McGregor district. Mr. Linda will share some of his collection inherited from his great-grandfather.
Mr. Powell, currently an engineer for BNSF, became interested in the Cotton Belt at a very young age while living in his hometown of Gatesville, TX. He took over 300 photographs of the Cotton Belt in operation between McGregor and Gatesville during its last year of operation. Since the Cotton Belt abandoned the line, Mr. Powell has actively researched the Cotton Belt's operations between McGregor and Comanche, TX. He currently owns the former Mound, TX depot and several cabooses, one of which is a former Cotton Belt.
