It looks like I'll be moving to Palmdale, California. I hope there's more action there. The coastline has been okay. The problem has been all of the Metrolink and Amtrak activity there.
I'm looking forward to seeing a lot more freight traffic but am not sure what to expect.

Palmdale sounds like a good choice. You will get all the freight traffic over the cutoff, plus several Metrolink trains. There is minimal freight traffic over the Saugas line but on my last Metrolink trip to Lancaster I saw one through freight and a local in Soledad canyon.

I have not lived in Sylmar for over three years now, but there used to be be a local from Gemco that went out at least as far as Canyon Country and Valencia; they even still were assigned a C-50-9 when I saw then last.
There is a lot of traffic these days up that way, and Mojave is just a few miles up the road and then it gets really busy. You will have tons to see in Palmdale.
Try breakfast at Crazy Otto's Diner, one in Lancaster and one in Acton, both are only a few blocks from the tracks. One of their breakfasts can feed you for two or three days.

Good heads up John.
I saw one place near Palmdale Junction that I like. It has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. I was in Palmdale for about three hours and heard all kinds of freight action while I was there. I'm really getiing eager tobe up there.

I found a four bedroom, two bathroom house in Palmdale today. I'll be moving in in about two weeks from now. It's not as close to the railroad tracks as I would like, but I can still here the trains (Metrolink and freight) from the house. I'll be living about a mile and a quarter from the mailnine, north of Palmdale Junction.
The only problem I have is that I'm confined to a wheel chair. Two years ago I had my left foot, ankle and part of my leg amputatided due to diabetes. I was within 24 hours of loosing my life. I guess all is not so bad after all.
For two more weeks I'll still have the Santa Barbara subdivision's coastline action close by.
