C. W. "Red" Standefer and J. B. "Ben" Malone pose on Cotton Belt G2 Consolidation #513 . The photo was taken about 1921, both Ben and Red are Cotton Belt Firemen. Both will be promoted to Cotton Belt Engineers in 1939. The 513 was built in February '09 and was scrapped in October of '48. Red Standefer railroaded from 1917-1967 and retired as a #1 Engineer on the seniority roster of the Southern (TEXAS) Division of the Cotton Belt.

Cotton Belt Firemen J. B. "Ben" Malone and C. W. "Red" Standefer are all dressed up and waiting for a train in front of the Commerce Union Station in 1921. Perhaps they are going to Dallas or Fort Worth. Maybe it is a deadhead move, but they seem very overdressed for that. I strongly suspect this photo was taken by Ms. Era Ross who became Mrs. C. W. Standefer in 1922.

C. W. "Red" Standefer and J. B. "Ben" Malone were both promoted to Cotton Belt Engineers in 1939. This was after a ten year gap in promotions because of the Great Depression.

From the January 1, 1922 Fireman's Seniority List of the Southern (Texas) Division of the Cotton Belt I found that C. W. "Red" Standefer was #51 on a list of 163 Firemen and had become a fireman on January 8, 1918. J. B. "Ben" Malone was #56 on the same list and had become a fireman on February 28, 1919. Way to go guys! Red Standefer was also qualified on the list as a Switch Engineer if needed.

Billy Null heard from. For those of you who don't know him Billy Null works for the Borg as an engineer. He has worked for a railroad, starting with the Cotton Belt, since 1948! Yes Billy is an old timer and a #1 Engineer like Red Standefer was.
