Terry Kirkland had a busy day and saw seven Cotton Belt trains in Commerce 35 years ago today. Of course Terry had the advantage of working for the Cotton Belt and seeing trains was a part of the job.

I arrived back in Texas on Wednesday January 10, 1973 for another semester at East Texas State. A serious ice storm was delivered by a Norther, it hit Texas so hard that it was closed down for a couple of days to let it thaw out. Students back at East Texas State took some of the trays out of the cafeteria and used them as sleds to slide down the icy roads. That was interesting to see for someone from New England. I didn't get over to the depot for a couple of days. Notice my note taking is very different from Terry's though I credit him with refining what I took notice of.

My guess on why the WTS is shown at an earlier time and written after #18 is that they were at different ends of the yard and arrived nearly simultaneously. Terry could not be at two places at once and wrote the time of the WTS when the crew tied up.

Terry Kirkland saw eight Cotton Belt trains in Commerce 35 years ago today. Train #317 was another Pine Bluff- Dallas train that had been put on as of April 1, 1973. Terry may have been working a swing shift as he saw trains both in the early morning and in the following night. He saw the previous day's #17 depart and saw the current one arrive.

Terry Kirkland saw one Cotton Belt train in Grapevine 35 years ago today. He must have been home visiting his mother in Grapevine when he saw this. The lead unit of this #18 train would be taken off at Commerce and used for the Greenville Dodger.

Terry Kirkland saw three Cotton Belt trains in Commerce 35 years ago today. After his trip home he was back in Commerce later in the day. Note that the same unit he saw leading #18 through Grapevine was on the Greenville Dodger. The #344 train was a Dallas-Pine Bluff train.
