Starting a group of photos taken in June of 1975 as #4449 journeyed (RR) West and East to meet to Freedom Train itself in Chicago First photo, June 21st, North end of Mt. Shasta City, it was first shot of #4449 and only my second shot of an operating SP steam locomotive. In the Sacramento River Canyon South of Castella near Soda Creek Road. June 24th, 1975, Eastbound at Yuba Gap passing "Streamliner Curve", where #101 got stuck in 1952 If there is interest and I am not boring you, I will continue with more shots from this "inagural" trip. I goofed---the second photo is NOT the June trip to ferry 4449 East but is, instead, a shot of the entire Freedom Train in the Sacramento River Canyon. They were on the way to a display date in Reno.
More later

Very good looking locomotive, regardless of its paint scheme.

I,too chased the 4449 that weekend. This was the first time I saw steam. I first saw the 4449 somewhere south of Dunsmuir, near Mt.Shasta.I then chased the train over Donner pass,,then got to ride the train from Truckee to Sparks! ;D 8-)They were giving rides between stations all weekend.
