[glow=red,2,800] Hmmm, I only railfanned up that way once, and that was back in '81; it looks like I'll wait on the competition before entering the pic I am thinking about.
Anybody else on this board live up that way, or got up there very often? A very pretty area to be sure.[/glow]

In September of 1987, SP 9402 West crosses Salt Creek Trestle and state highway 58 as it climbs toward Cascade Summit on the Cascade Subdivision. Two thirds back in the train is a 6-unit helper with an unusual visitor - a BN B30-7A cabless booster, nicknamed "Twinkies" by BN employees. Regards, John

[glow=red,2,600] With a name like Shastafan, I figured you'd have a great pic from that area; I was right. You are forcing me to dig into the "double secret" collection, and I had to dig in really deep to find something adequate.
What I can tell you about this pic is, it's just like the others I took during that trip in 1981; with no notes remaining, and only "out of the way" locations scouted to catch the train coming down, this is taken south of Weed and North of Sacramento. I hope you like my entry; it is one of my favorite pics of all time, maybe tied for first place. I have to give the good Lord credit on this one; He showed me this spot and got me through a monsterous crowd of fellow fans, to be alone for this pic.[/glow] John D Huey Photo © 2008 Credit must accompany reproduction. [glow=red,2,600] And yes, before you ask, I planned to have the signal just in that place; I could have easily moved a bit further south, but then the geometry of the shot would have been off. This was not intended as just another roster shot of 4449, it is a picture of the SP's rail line with a steam train on it; its just what I wanted, the way it looked best to my eye at the time.
Now push F11 on your keyboard; if you have the latest version of IE you will get a full frame view; push it again, and you will be as before. These were not taken with the idea of watching them on a TV screen, but on a projection screen; only this framing conveys the image as it was.[/glow]

Insert SP train here... Bad weather rolls over tunnel #7 west of Cruzatte, Oregon.

So far it looks like another hard choice!! Yep ! Very hard time we have here! Is "voting just one" mandatory? Cheers Enzo

I'll just have to sit back and enjoy watching the competition this time. While I did live in the Bay Area for many years, I unfortunately never got up along the Shasta Route to do any photography.

This one won't be easy. I will have to wait and see if there will be any more entries before I give my final answer.

Good heavens, we've got very good photographers out here. These are people who have and have not entered into this contest!! It makes things better, IMO, because it brings out some excellent photos!!
