Holy crap John...this stuff is awesome!!! Why, thank you very much, but now none of my hats fit any more!
I had a few more pics, but needed to go to the club, so I took a break. The day I shot the 2 poses of 6800 above, it was after a day of railfanning out at Pepper Ave. The U25BE was facing the wrong way, and too close to the bridge in the morning. Well, why we were further east, some saint on the SP wyed the thing and parked it in a much better spot. Here is the driving away pic that I took just in case that eventful November morning.Don't forget, the idea of a SPH&TS was forming in the back of my mind even then; so most pics I took were done for modelers or historians. I just wish I had not been so broke back then; lots of stuff got ruined due to an undiagnosed camera issue; I found out after I dropped of about 8 rolls of film, all under exsposed and trash of course. Here we see the way 6800 ended up, as the 3100. At least this one got preserved and is out at Perris I think.I think that is enough for one day.

Only the SP could put together a consist like that one! That is about the truest thing I've heard on this forum, but then by the date of this pic U50's were history with the Borg. This power was dragging a long cut of cars from Old Colton Yard to West Colton.

Wonderful photos. Great stories, I'm sure to go along with the photos. Southern Pacific gave us all a good show with their trains!!

The "Mountain Local" is eastbound through Walong. A pack of GP9E's led through City of Industry Yard

This pic really takes me back to very happy time in my life. I may have been a nearly flat broke vagabond, spending a few weeks living out of my 1965 El Camino, but I did manage to see some good trains up in Tehachapi pass. This was one that not only looked good but sounded fantastic!

It's a very good spot. Add speed letter units and it becomes even better.

It's a very good spot. Add speed letter units and it becomes even better. I can handle looking at these units because they have nice noses; it is the ones that had the missing lights or plated over hardware that made me cringe. I am getting used to the speed lettering; then again, anything looks good on a SD45...
