In Cajon Pass, SP 299 west, with a loaded beet train, makes her way toward Palmdale. Here we see her helpers shoving hard. She is above Blue Cut, in the Swarthout Canyon. I didn't get out to Cajon as much as I should have.

Classic SP freight through Hiland Westbound tonnage led by Southern Pacific SD45 #7419 blasts through the cut at Hiland on the Palmdale Colton Cutoff in 1986.

During the summer of 1976, SP 9359 West is having a difficult time making track speed with a monster train, so a crewman is doing a little maintenance enroute. A common joke among railfans was calling every SP train an "ECITY" - Every Car In The Yard. Regards, John

It's going to be tough making a decision.

I never got up to Cajon much to shoot the SP, my car at the time was not suited to dirt roads, the best I could usually do was Hiland as there was a pretty good road up to that spot; but the light was never great it seemed.I'll try another action shot, that seemed to do okay before. This freight was moving fairly well, and the upper order hoops lower arm is motion blurred; the orders are grabbed textbook style, in the crook of the arm.

Hello SP Friends, This is my first entry ever! I wish I could submit more than one, there are soooooo many, but lets go for the artsy approach. I believe this was 1994 @ Hiland, SSW 9664. Peter M. Portland, OR

Kick butt pics guys! Don't think I'll have a chance of winning this one Never say never! It all depends on what the viewers like. Honestly, of all the pics in the last contest, I liked the composition and mood of your signal bridge shot the best. I figured my little ditty would place in the middle someplace.
I'll toss the gauntlet for the next location right now; Colton Yard (to include the entire yard, Bloomington to Slover Mountain, and all the way to the east end of Old Colton Yard; including the GATX plant and Palmdale Cuttoff up to I-10).
