Unfortunatly for all of you, my favorite cars were the little two bay covered hoppers, so as time goes on, I'll be posting more and more of these.This one has red lettering and herald, the patch was boxcar red with white data.

Its hard to tell from this picture, but you are looking at red lettering, with a black data and reporting marks patch over light gray....and the last for now, all black lettering with no herald...I just love these cars! I can't wait for the next SP Freight Cars Book, Vol.5 covers these cars amongst others.

This pic is one that led to many heated arguements, all I know is what I saw. This is a raw image without any photoshoping other than croping to remove some of the damaged area. This is an interesting possibility, was it a prototype or a regular paint job that went perfectly bad somehow?
The world may never know!I hope to find the slide or negative someday...I remember looking at both sides of this car and could see remnants of white reportingmarks on both sides. Only this class of early cars had a high incidence of box car red paint below a later gray covering.
