(Wow, it's been a long time since I was here.)
SP modellers have an issue modellers of other roads don't have: number boards that show train number, not engine number. How do they handle it?

The exact reason why I model JULY, 1967... After June 28, 1967, the train numbers were no longer placed in the indicators.
Most modelers would have a designated locomotive for specific trains, all else would be run as extras.

Kind of hard if you actually have a yard/major station where trains originate and terminate.
No, I don't have an SP layout. This information is of use to another idea I'm working on, though.
Looking in a book I have, I just noticed that UP (at least in the transition era) did the same thing! Funny, why is SP better known for it?
Anyone else have anything to add?
