The society has updated the web site. Looks pretty good! Emailed them about the member password for the member area. But no response yet. Also want to get our forum listed with them. Take a look at the new digs. www.sphts.org/

I wish I could look at the SPH&TS webpage. What a way for the society to treat a former employee!!

Please, you refer to the SPH&TS FORUM access password or just the Member section of the site? I've see you have done an attempt to access the forum and have type a wrong password. As Administrators, we can't see your password, but we can reset to a generic one and send you the data by mail. Then you can modify the password as you like. Let me know if I can help, off line at : enzo_fortuna@virgilio.it

At this point. Enzo, I would join the society. It just isn't worth it!!!! Not that I have any financial interest in the SPH&TS or anything to gain by there being more or less members, but I am curious about the "cost of membership" not being worth it statement; why do you feel that way? Granted, the flow of the articles in Trainline seems to run towards older material, but that is what they have available right now. There are not too many folks willing to write articles at this time about more recent happenings; I guess as time goes on maybe they will step up. The SPH&TS was started for one purpose, to become a central location for the storage and dissemination of all things relating to the ESPEE. I saw it as a modeling aid, and everybody else who helped start things had their own vision; what we have is the result, the Society is what the members make it. If I had felt that doing all the leg work to get the thing going back in 1981 was not worth my time or effort...well, who knows what might have happened. I'm not saying anybody has to join, don't get me wrong. I just do not see why so many feel the sweat and labor of other SP fans should just be given away with no support to the group designed to preserve the History of the SP. The Borg has already written themselves into almost everything; basically SP is never mentioned when you tour West Colton these days, and there is plenty more where that came from. UP also threw away tons of SP paperwork, fortunately some fans went dumpster diving before it all hit the landfill; much was still lost. If the record and history of the SP is to be preserved beyond those of us who remember this railroad, who will do it if not the SPH&TS? You are living in the last generation of those who remember steam, Tiger Stripe and Black Widow units; Bloody Nose paint came on board in 1958, that is 51 years ago (I was 2). We ain't getting any younger. Most of the "heavy hitters" is SP literature are starting to stare 70 right in the face; many see it in their rear view mirrors only. If the legacy of the SP has any value to you, then support its archive keepers, if not, then that is how you feel about things, and that is okay too. Times are tight, and we all have to prioritize our spending. I remember making a choice to eat Top Ramen three or more days a week for a month so I could pay my dues once, back when stuff was really bad for me; it is all about priorities I guess.

Gary, thinking to me: I never see SP steam running but.. I model SP in the steam era. I never work for the SP, so have no story to tell you... but I enjoy so much hear and read the SP history and personal stories. Some of the gone SP "monuments" I've see in my youth are still so beautiful in my memory (maybe better than was in the real world, as my romantic sense of life give it some smooth color? ) that I feel the need to preserve it in models before he faded in the memory. All this, I know, is just a little things, comparing to what the Society members can do, just 'cause they are there, where the Espee was. I'm sure John have no problem if I copy here some of they word, as I find just "perfect" : "after all, the SP is gone, and those of us who remember it ain't getting any younger. Some day soon all that will be left will be folks using books and purchased images to do these clinics, all the "hands on" people will busy elsewhere. Take advantage of what is out there when it comes around; you might not see it again. God Bless us all,John Huey" Well, I'm already in the "using books and purchased images" era! What else I can do here (Italy), million miles from you, to fill my SP hungry? Well, I formally promise to my son (now 17) to take him to the California State Railroad Museum to see in person some of the "beauty" we run in N scale! And this is part of what I like to "send in the future": a sense of love for trains in general and SP in particular. That's was the reason as my son was 5 I take him to Sicily by train as I've done every year with my mother when I was 5! Well, a different trip (I remember steam monsters running south Naples to the island and ... a short trip on a narrow gauge line grading the hills) but.. sometimes we still remember and speak of this trip! So, my wish is: if you have something to share (and I'm sure you have lot!) just.... share it! You don't need to be a Society member to frequent the Society forum and tell your stories! Maybe somebody will tell your story to a kid! But, if your budget don't suffer too much, or your priorities leave a place for SP "tradition", helping the Society you can "send something in the future". Take care, friend

Enzo; If you like, I have an extra copy of a Southern Pacific wedtern region employee timetable. It's dated October 25, 1987 and is in mint condition. We can do private messages to make the arrangements. This timetable covers from Portlans, Oregon and points south; Ogden, Utah and points west as well as El Paso, Texas and points west. Take care, friend.

Espeelover, don't take me wrong. After worked for 16 years with the espee I have a lot of good memories. I just don't feel the need to pay somebody else to remind me of what they were. As far as the message boards go, there are plenty of boards like this one to tell stories of what I saw and lived thru. For these reasons I don't feel it's worth it to join.
