The SPH&TS began as a labor of love, but it was one of necessity as well; the writing was on the wall even then. Being in a model train club, amongst several avid (rabid) SP fans, I felt it strange that the greatest RR on earth (IMO), had no "fan club". I was working at Micro-Scale at the time, and was blessed by knowing a lot of other serious SP fans; which was the initial labor and knowledge base for the creation of the society. One thing led to another and before you knew it, the ball was rolling.
I guess what I am trying to say is, the SPH&TS is the one place to go, to get good honest SP related information. By supporting the society, you are helping to preserve the memory of the SP for future generations. Sure, I know there are a ton of books on the SP, but you get more than that with the SPH&TS, you get to know a bunch of really great fellow fans by attending their conventions, and you get access to info available no place else.
Some of the best times I have ever had, have been at the SPH&TS conventions; talking shop with people who know whats up. Whether its a big clinic, or a small private meeting, you can learn something new several times each day. I know my modeling knowledge has been greatly enriched by the society and its members, and for this, I can never thank them enough.
