Westbound Southern Pacific tonnage makes its way up the main behind classic SP power towards the west end of Canyon on the Palmdale Colton Cutoff in Cajon Pass in 1984.

Thanks Gary. When SP was building their line across the desert out of Mojave in 1876, one option they had was to take their line over and down Cajon, but choose to route directly into Los Angeles instead. They would have beaten the California Southern by almost 10 years and most likely had a much better ROW through the Pass. So much for history.
