March 12, 1973 MONDAY It was 36 years ago today my Spring Break had started. After the weekend I Caught a ride down to Cleburne with a friend from school and began to explore the large Santa Fe yard and shops there. That afternoon I boarded Amtrak #15 the southbound Texas Chief while the Cleburne shop forces swapped out one F7ABAB set for another. The train soon departed and I looked forward to further railfan adventures in Houston.

My notes say I stayed at the Roadrunner Inns for $9.50. I used the phonebook to write down the addresses of the train stations in Houston. The SP Depot was at 902 Washington Street. The Santa Fe Depot was at 501 Crawford Street and the SP Freight Depot was 816 North San Jacinto. The next morning I set out to see as many trains as possible in the local area.
