Got to go see a car maintenance facility for LCRA's coal cars in Smithville, Texas for a NMRA regional convention.

This is, IMHO, the best website about the Southern Pacific. So many of us really did enjoy so many things about the SP. It has brought back some very good memories about the SP. It's good to see how well this site is doing. Thanks Thom for starting it up!!

Well it looks like it will be a hot one around here today. The weather man thinks it will be around 100 degrees in the west end of the San Fernando Valley.

I've finished posting all of the former DRGW mainline trackage and the western region of the SP mainline trackage. I'll be getting the eastern region and Cotton Belt stuff posted. I am in the process of double checking the info. I want it to be perfect.
If any of you have any additional information and would like to share it, please feel free to do so.

I was reading on another forum that the loading facility at Saco for the oil cans has been removed. I was wondering in any of the members here had any photos of it from back in the day when the facility was working to get the cans loaded.
I knew the oil cans started September 11, 1983 and was a contract train for Shell Oil. Shell's refinery was at Alameda and Sepulveda in the Carson, California area. Each tank car held 23,700 gallons each (1,848,600 gallons per train) and weighed 10,608 tons. The train was given 6 big units on the point and 6 mid train helpers.

Thanks for the tonnage info! I'll use that when I try to edit the weight on my oil cars in MSTS.
Well I got deadheaded from Yuma earlier today. Took a Z train out there yesterday.

Your welcome Josh. I'm out here to help in anyway I can. We also have other knowledgable members as well.
BTW their was another very heavy train that I've seen at Sylmar. It was the JRCIP (James River - City of Industry Paper). This train was known to have, at times, 8 big units on the point and a 9 unit set of helpers.
